About me...I am Kelty. I have been married a little while and we have raised two incredibly smart, loving, kind, funny, perfect children. (Just kidding, they're totally crazy!) We live in Central California and although I dream of far off places to call home, our roots run deep here. I am learning to ~bloom where you are planted~ Ben has this "thing" for cooking. It is totally his gift and his passion. We love having people over for dinner and fellowship over good food and rich conversation. I have this insatiable desire to travel the world. I have dragged this crew a few far places. I am head-over-heals in love with this world. I can almost always be found scouting out our next adventure.
This blog started as a way for me to document our adoption, our biggest adventure to date. We are now home from China, where we adopted our beautiful daughter, Charlotte. This blog is now dedicated to talking about all things motherhood, adoption, and life brings. Thank you for stopping by and following along. I hope to be transparent, vulnerable, and loving with all I share. In Love, kelty |
why China?
Honestly, I don't think we chose China. I think God placed China on our hearts about 5 years ago through a few small "coincidences." The seed that was planted has just now began to grow and God continues to encourage us and reveal His plan with a clear direction towards China. International adoption has gone through a big overhaul the last decade. Some practical facts about the China program are:
It is very stable. Families are matched, papers are prepared, and travel is predictable. The timeline is less than two years from start to finish. We are also able to choose the age and gender of our child. |
how much does it cost? and how will you pay for it?
To adopt from China costs about 30,000 dollars. These are fees that are spread out between our local Hague accredited adoption agency, our international agency, US fees for fingerprints, background checks and immigration costs, and our travel expenses.
To cover some of the cost of bringing our girl home we will be holding a couple of fundraisers and applying for grants. |
what is the timeline?
We can submit our dossier to China on February 3, 2016. On my 30th birthday! After that we could get matched with our daughter as soon as that day. Or it could take a few months. Once we are matched with our girl it then takes about 4-6 months to travel and complete our adoption. However, an adoption timeline is filled with uncertainties and dependent on many factors so we are leaning on God's time!

did you know?
There are approximately 147-163 million orphans in the world. Most of these children are raised in orphanages without proper nutrition, medical care, or space. In many cases children are left to fend for themselves and live on the streets. In some countries these children starve or die of treatable diseases. In many cases children are abused physically or sexually. Many girls end up selling their body for money, or become a victim of sex trafficking. But most importantly, these children grow up without a family, Without ever knowing unconditional love of parents. We encourage you to think about adoption for your own family. Adoption changes lives.
